After obtaining her Masters degree in Library and Information Science (University of Western Ontario), Katherine gained valuable working experience in information technology and competitive intelligence through her work at the University of Manitoba and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. In 2003, Katherine joined the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI) as an Information Specialist. Through her work with NRC's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), Katherine provides invaluable support to Canada's small and medium size enterprises. Being the former Director of Communications for the Icelandic National League of North America, Katherine is well versed in her role as Editor-in-Chief of the Technology Watch Newsletter.

Adam Levin Adam joined the Medical Technology Watch Canada team in 2007. A graduate of the universities of Toronto and Oxford, Adam is a former editor with McClelland & Stewart and TVOntario. His writing has appeared in The Globe and Mail, Winnipeg Free Press, Books in Canada, LRC, The Encyclopedia of Manitoba and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, among other publications. When not hard at work, he enjoys hiking, the outdoors and snowshoeing.

Roxanne Deslauriers![]() Dr. Roxanne Deslauriers is Director of Research at NRC's Institute for Biodiagnostics (IBD) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her research interests focus on the application of non-invasive techniques, NMR in particular, to biological and medical topics. This includes the development of animal models of human disease as well as technical developments to improve NMR spectroscopy of living animals and humans. Her most recent research interests focus on the early detection of rejection of transplanted kidneys. Dr. Deslauriers is Associate Editor for the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and member of numerous national and international scientific committees. She is a member of the Executive Committee (Treasurer) of the 4,500-member International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. A Fellow of the Society of Magnetic Resonance, Dr. Deslauriers has been invited to speak at many international conferences on ground-breaking magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS) techniques developed and tested in Winnipeg for protecting the heart and brain during surgery on the heart and great vessels.
IBD - http://www.ibd.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/ Don Douglas![]() Don was a Research Officer at National Research Council's Institute for Marine Biosciences, located in Halifax, for nine years. There, he worked on marine toxins, including study of the production and biosynthesis of neurotoxins responsible for major health issues related to seafood consumption. His research also included work on phycoerythrin, a natural fluorescent pigment that has industrial applications in medical imaging. Don subsequently became an Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA) with NRC's Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) in Halifax. He is currently a lead ITA for IRAP in the Atlantic and Nunavut Region in the areas of biotechnology and medical devices, providing technical and financial assistance to companies in the life sciences and medical devices sector, including the area of medical imaging. He has organized sessions on commercialization of medical discoveries at the annual BioPort Atlantic meetings of BioNova - the Nova Scotia Biotechnology and Life Science Industry Association. Don is a member of the Halifax Brain Repair Centre's Commercialization Committees as well as the Neuroimaging Research Laboratory's Steering Committee.
IBD - http://irap-pari.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca Graham North![]() Graham North. M.Eng.,P.Eng. began his career as an Electronics Engineer with BC Research in Vancouver in 1979. His early years were spent developing real-time embedded control systems primarily for naval and marine applications. In this capacity he was a co-recipient of a Science Council of BC Gold Medal award for Industrial Innovation. Some larger projects included cable handling/towfish stabilizer systems for the US and Royal Navies, a drill string stabilizer for offshore oil exploration and a stabilized camera platform used for TV coverage of downhill skiing at Winter Olympics.
During the 1980s Graham developed a growing interest in medical technologies and in 1989 completed a master's degree at McGill University in Biomedical Engineering specializing in EMG analysis. Graham joined NRC/IRAP in 1995 as an Industrial Technology Advisor and has worked extensively with both established and startup medical device clients in BC. From 2002-2004 he was a board member of BC MEDIA. Currently he is is located at the Medical Device Development Centre in Vancouver and plays an active role in promoting this community in BC.

Pauline graduated with a degree in physics from Cambridge University and started a career in R&D working in optics and electron optics, including work on one of the first real-time video disk recorders. Subsequently, via an MBA at MIT, she joined McKinsey & Company and had the opportunity to work on innovation management (as well as strategy and marketing) in some of the world's largest corporations. She later brought her two careers together at The University of Toronto Innovations Foundation, which she ran during the 1980s. The Foundation patented and licensed inventions from the University's science, engineering and medical faculties, and assisted in the formation of spin-off companies. Returning to management consulting subsequently gave her the opportunity to work with small companies. In her career as an Industrial Technology Advisor in IRAP Pauline has specialized in photonics and software, and added biophotonics and medical imaging to her interests more recently. She is a founding member of the Ontario Photonics Technology Industry Cluster (OPTIC) and continues to serve on its working committees.
